Why The Memphis Grizzlies Do The Deal
This is not a means for the Grizzlies to replace Jackson Jr. Simply put, he is irreplaceable. The Grizzlies would have to sell the farm to bring in a player who makes his defensive impact.
In fact, Bogdanovic won’t even come close in that regard. He’s mediocre at best on that end of the floor. On the other hand, he will make up for Jackson Jr.’s loss on the offensive end of the floor.
Realistically, he may even exceed Jackson Jr.’s production on that end. For what it’s worth, Bogdanovic is a significantly more consistent three-point shooter. The defensive gap doesn’t make him a long-term replacement. With that said, that doesn’t mean he can’t be a long-term addition.
After all, Bogdanovic is on an expiring contract. If the Grizzlies like what they see in him, they can retain him. In all likelihood, he won’t command the same price he’s currently getting paid on the open market.
