Why The New York Knicks Do The Deal
Realistically, every team in the NBA is in a different position. With that in mind, every team in the NBA should have a different risk profile.
The Denver Nuggets are in win-now mode. Granted, Nikola Jokic is 27 and just signed a long-term extension. The urgency level in Denver isn’t high, but it isn’t low – if they don’t win a championship in the next few years, who knows if Jokic will seek a better situation?
On the other hand, the Knicks ought to be operating without any urgency. They have no chance of winning a title in 2022-23. With that in mind, they should be focused on building a team that has a chance to win one several years down the road.
Acquiring Porter Jr. may put them in a position to do so. Of course, the same injury concerns will matter to the Knicks. This is a gamble.
