Why The Phoenix Suns Do The Deal
No team has to justify trading for Kevin Durant. Doing so inherently justifies itself.
Still, the fit for Durant in Phoenix is particularly enticing. In recent years, the Suns have had tremendous success. Sometimes, it feels like that success has been predicated on fielding a well-structured, balanced roster.
That’s all well and good. In the era of super teams, it’s been refreshing to see such a carefully constructed team do so well. On the other hand, it’s possible that the Suns have always been an alpha offensive player away from the NBA title.
Kevin Durant, of course, is one. Suddenly, Devin Booker becomes this team’s second option. Booker has developed into a viable primary scorer, but any team featuring him as Plan B has to have serious championship aspirations. Meanwhile, the Suns still have Chris Paul setting the table and Ayton patrolling the interior.
