2. Dallas Mavericks

The Dallas Mavericks were one of the biggest losers during the 2022 NBA offseason. They advanced to the Western Conference Finals in the postseason and upgraded the frontcourt as they had hoped. However, they suffered a huge loss with Jalen Brunson departing.

Brunson signed a four-year, $104 million deal with the New York Knicks as a free agent to become their starting point guard. That left a major void in the Dallas Mavericks’ lineup as they are dangerously thin in the backcourt.

Beyond Luka Doncic and Spencer Dinwiddie, the projected starting backcourt, the only other ball handler on the roster is Frank Ntilikina. One injury and they would be in dire straights. While Caris LeVert isn’t a point guard, he is capable of running the offense for stretches of time.

Jason Kidd doesn’t need someone to play 30+ minutes per game as the lead playmaker and ball-handler. He just needs someone capable of doing it for about 10-12 minutes per game whenever Doncic or Dinwiddie need a rest as their minutes can be staggered.

LeVert would be a boost in that regard and provide the team with another scoring option. Building a trade package around Reggie Bullock and the expiring contract of Dwight Powell could be enough to get a deal done.

If the Dallas Mavericks pushed to include Tim Hardaway Jr. and his matching salary, Cleveland would expect a lot of draft capital in return.
