Why The Chicago Bulls Do The Deal
Vucevic didn’t appear to be the answer for the Bulls at center last season. Could Mason Plumlee be?
It’s hard to say. Plumlee is a superb passing big who is solid in the pick-and-roll and can defend in space to an extent. With all of that being said, he’s not an elite rim protector by any means.
He’s still a defensive upgrade over Vucevic. So, for that matter, is recently signed Bull Andre Drummond. The Bulls could have the two share starting big man duties. That would improve their defense and simplify their offensive structure in the process.
Of course, adding Hayward complicates it. On the other hand, Hayward could operate as a sixth man with this squad. Given that they’re losing Coby White, that would make him a valuable addition.

It may not be a role befitting a star, but as Hayward’s career advances, it may benefit him to do something different: be a star in his role.
