Man, the Phoenix Suns really do have everything. They even have most of their first-round picks! 

That’s extremely convenient for this proposal. After all, the NBA’s Stepien rule disallows teams from going consecutive drafts without a first-round selection. 

It’s a practical rule. Realistically, it’s designed to save teams from themselves. A team could move several consecutive picks for a star, only to fall short of their goal anyway. Without young talent incoming, they suddenly begin to look like a broken organization. 

Of course, the Suns are far from being described as such. In 2020-21, they made the NBA Finals. Last season, they fell well short of that mark, but they still won a league-best 64 games.
