Why The New Orleans Pelicans Do The Deal
Some may suggest that Mike Conley isn’t worth a first-round pick. Realistically, they’ll have a case to make.
At 34, Conley is aging. Moreover, he’s a defensive liability. The isn’t a perfect acquisition for the Pelicans, but that doesn’t mean it’s not a worthy one.
Plus, this first-round pick isn’t worth as much to the Pelicans as it could be. After all, they own the Los Angeles Lakers’ selection in the next draft. While the Lakers’ record is wildly unpredictable, it’s not a stretch to say that it very well may convey lower than the Pelicans’ selection.
With that in mind, the Pelicans shouldn’t hesitate here. A starting lineup of Conley, C.J. McCollum, Brandon Ingram, Zion Williamson, and Jonas Valanciunas will surely challenge for the best offensive team in the NBA.
