On the other hand, if you’re looking for an example of a team that eschewed fit in 2021-22, look no further than the Chicago Bulls. 

This team went about building a contending team by purely stockpiling talent. To be sure, this roster has plenty. Zach LaVine, DeMar DeRozan, and Nikola Vucevic have multiple All-Star appearances between them.

Moreover, the Bulls did try to maximize their stars with supporting players like Ball, Alex Caruso, and Patrick Williams. Unfortunately, the fit between the stars themselves proved questionable. 

Granted, that’s not the sole explanation for this team’s disappointing first-round exit. Williams’ injury was a particular blow to this squad. With that said, the poor fit between Vucevic and his star teammates didn’t help matters.

With LaVine and DeRozan responsible for much of the playmaking, Vucevic was relegated to floor-spacing duties. Historically, he’s been a reliable shooter, but he’s also got many more layers to his game. When his shooting fell off, and he didn’t get the touches to demonstrate them, his impact was minimized.
