Why The New York Knicks Do The Deal 

The Knicks aren’t immune to criticism, but in reality, they’ve quietly assembled a quality base of assets by 2022. 

Their collection of draft capital is particularly impressive. In fact, league-wide, it’s only surpassed by that of the Oklahoma City Thunder. This summer, many expected the Knicks to unload those assets in their bid to acquire Mitchell. 

Now that they haven’t done so, they might as well continue stockpiling. This trade won’t make the Knicks better in 2022-23. Realistically, it will probably have the opposite effect. 

On the other hand, it will improve their future outlook. The Knicks may have missed out on the Mitchell sweepstakes, but other stars will become available.
