Julius Randle To Dallas Mavericks

New York Knicks Receive: F Davis Bertans, G/F Josh Green, 2025 First-Round Pick (DAL)
Dallas Mavericks Receive: F Julius Randle

There is an irony in including the New York Knicks here – in fact, it’s a rather obvious one.

The Knicks were supposed to trade for Donovan Mitchell. Mitchell is a New York native, and the Knicks had assets to spare in order to get a deal done. Everyone saw the writing on the wall, it just happened to be misleading them the whole time.

Since the New York Knicks didn’t make that move, they might want to consider other moves this summer. Specifically, they should at least entertain moving on from Randle. He had a dismal 2021-22 season, there appears to be discord between him and the organization, and he’s on long-term money.

Of course, in order to trade him, they’ll need to find a suitor. That team would need to be desperate enough for playmaking to overlook the disaster that was Randle’s season last year. The Dallas Mavericks could be that team.

After all, they just lost Jalen Brunson in free agency – to the New York Knicks, no less. Now, they’re badly in need of a secondary playmaker behind Luka Doncic. If Randle can return to his All-NBA form from 2020-21, he could be the perfect man for that job.
