Jaylen Brown To Atlanta Hawks

Charlotte Hornets Receive: C Clint Capela, F Sam Hauser
Boston Celtics Receive: F Gordon Hayward, F De’Andre Hunter, 2023 First-Round Pick (ATL), 2023 First-Round Pick (DEN via CHA), 2024 First-Round Pick (SAC via ATL)
Atlanta Hawks Receive: G/F Jaylen Brown

Of course, the Donovan Mitchell deal, somehow, wasn’t the biggest rumor of this NBA offseason. As great of a player as Mitchell is, he pales in comparison to Kevin Durant.

Durant requested a trade this summer, but he’s since retracted his request. Still, there are lingering effects of his request. In particular, Jaylen Brown seems fairly disheartened to learn that he was included in an offer his Boston Celtics made for Durant.

If he’s disheartened enough, the Celtics may be forced to move him. After all, Brown is two years away from free agency – losing him for nothing would be catastrophic. The Boston Celtics could opt to get ahead of that potential problem this summer.

In that event, this could be an interesting deal for them. In a sense, they replace Brown between Hayward and Hunter – Hayward can replicate a portion of his shot-creating with his playmaking, and Hunter makes up the ground Boston loses on defense.

Meanwhile, they get three first-round picks in the process.

Finally, the Hornets get a much-needed starting big man, and the Atlanta Hawks complete their new Big 3 by adding Brown in the mix with Trae Young and Dejounte Murray. If Brown is unhappy in Bean Town, this deal could make sense for all parties involved.
