Why The Washington Wizards Do The Deal
In all likelihood, you have reservations about this trade. Following it, the two best players on the Wizards would be score-first guards.
In the past, that would have made it a non-starter for Washington. It was widely understood that in your backcourt, you needed to have a distributing guard along with a scorer. With that said, that’s a dying mentality in today’s league.
After all, many of the best point guards around the league look to score first. By that measure, Donovan Mitchell is perfectly equipped to run point in 2022. If the Wizards brought him in to do so, they’d be assembling perhaps the most talented backcourt in the NBA.
Opposing defenses would be in a major bind when they were sharing the floor. Suddenly, the Wizards would boast two guards worth double teaming.

On the other hand, the Wizards could opt to stagger the two, allowing them to have one elite scoring guard on the floor for the vast majority of every game.
Whichever path they chose, this trade should make them a much more relevant team in 2022-23. What does it do for the Jazz?
