Why The Indiana Pacers Do The Deal
Sometimes, when you’re assessing a trade package, you’ve got to trim some fat.
We don’t mean to disrespect Khem Birch, Juancho Hernangomez or D.J. Wilson. For a variety of reasons, the rebuilding Pacers are simply unlikely to be interested in any of them. For them, this deal is effectively Achiuwa, Flynn, and a first-round pick for Turner.
That’s a solid return for Indiana. Achiuwa is a versatile combo big who plays aggressive defense and has a relentless motor. If his flashes of three-point shooting are legitimate, he can be an important player for the Pacers in the future.
Flynn hasn’t quite demonstrated as much but is a skilled, young guard who’s worth taking a flier on. Still, this deal is about the first-round pick for the Pacers more than anything.
