Why The New York Knicks Do The Deal
For the Knicks, this deal is less about Kendrick Nunn and more about getting rid of Reddish.
After all, it’s become increasingly obvious that they don’t believe in him. Following his departure from Atlanta to New York at last year’s trade deadline, Reddish gradually fell out of favor with head coach Tom Thibodeau. By the end, he was out of his rotation entirely.
Meanwhile, Reddish has one more year on his contract before he’s eligible for a rookie extension. At this rate, he appears likely to seek one outside of New York. So, why not get something for him before they lose him for nothing?
No, Nunn is not the ideal target for the Knicks. They just signed Jalen Brunson, and still roster Derrick Rose as well. On the other hand, Reddish’s trade market is unlikely to be robust – he simply hasn’t been productive in his NBA career so far.

If the Knicks can’t find a better taker for him, adding Nunn is better than watching Reddish walk. That would be a painful experience indeed.
