Why The Portland Trail Blazers Do The Deal
We already touched on the Trail Blazers’ putrid Defensive Rating from 2021-22. Therefore, it should come as no surprise that they were one of the worst teams in the National Basketball Association.
Many called for the Blazers to rebuild. They rejected those calls. Instead, it appears as if this organization is intent on retooling. They’ve already taken measures to do so this summer, trading a first-round pick to the Detroit Pistons in exchange for Jerami Grant.
From a win-now perspective, it was a good deal. Between the addition of Grant, further improvement from Anfernee Simons, and better health from Damian Lillard, the Blazers have an opportunity to significantly improve in 2022-23. Still, it feels like something is missing from their roster.
Myles Turner could be that something. His low-usage game makes him the prototypical big man in 2022. His ability to space the floor would keep Portland’s driving lanes open, and his ability to defend the rim would take away opponents.
