Why The Washington Wizards Do The Deal
Let’s get one thing straight – this deal does not do anything to improve the Wizards in 2022-23. In fact, it will almost certainly make them worse.
Yes, the Wizards could use a point guard. With that said, the 36-year-old Lowry is probably not the solution. If his performance in the 2021-22 playoffs is any indication, he’s on the decline.
For Washington, that’s kind of the point here.
This is an opportunity for the Wizards to hit the reset button. Realistically, they’ll be one of the worst teams in the NBA following this deal. Bradley Beal is an excellent scoring guard, but we’ve seen him miss the postseason with stronger supporting casts.

The Wizards could rebuild with him on the roster, and with any luck, they’ll do it quickly enough to capitalize on the tail end of his prime.
It would be a bold move. It’s one that likely deviates from their plan. Still, the opportunity to flip an injury-prone Kristaps Porzingis for two first-round picks would have to be tempting. Would it be for Miami?
