Why The Los Angeles Lakers Do The Deal
For starters, Gordon Hayward is probably the most impactful playmaker of any of the players we’ve listed as Lakers targets so far. That alone makes this a good package for the Lakers.
After all, the entire idea of landing Westbrook was to alleviate some of the playmaking pressure on James. The issue was that Westbrook did nothing to enhance James’ production when he did have the ball. As a solid floor-spacer, that won’t be an issue with Hayward.
In fact, the same goes for Rozier. The Lakers did just acquire Patrick Beverley. He’s a better fit alongside James, and for that reason, he’ll probably get the starting nod. If so, Rozier could be one of the best sixth men in the National Basketball Association.
It may be hard to believe that, at this point, the Lakers would have to attach draft capital to Westbrook’s contract just to land this package. That is, nonetheless, reality.
