How This Deal Impacts Sacramento Kings
The Sacramento Kings are desperate to snap their 16-year playoff drought, which is the longest streak in NBA history. That is why they parted ways with Tyrese Haliburton at the deadline to acquire Domantas Sabonis.
Sabonis makes for a solid duo along with De’Aaron Fox, but the Kings need more than that to push for a playoff spot. Sacramento’s winning percentage didn’t change much with Sabonis in the mix, but it would certainly improve with Kevin Durant.
Adding Durant alongside Fox and Sabonis as the focal points of the team would put the Kings right in the thick of things in the Western Conference. While they may not be at the level of the Golden State Warriors and Phoenix Suns, they could certainly compete with the Dallas Mavericks of the conference with a star of Durant’s caliber in the lineup.
Sacramento has focused on upgrading the wing this offseason and Durant would be the cherry on top. He, Kevin Huerter and Malik Monk would be massive upgrades over what the team had last season, providing two-way play and versatility to the lineup.

We know that Durant cares somewhat about his image and while he may not have Sacramento as his top landing choice, it would be a chance for him to make a positive impact on his legacy. He would be looked at differently taking on the challenge of turning around a downtrodden Kings franchise. Imagine how people would look at him if he helped snap the playoff drought?
The Kings would be sacrificing a lot of their future in this trade, but that seems like something they would be willing to do given how much of the last two decades have gone.
