Why The Chicago Bulls Do The Deal
This deal makes the Bulls a less functional squad. They’re losing their stretch big man and their game-managing floor general at the same time. Still, one thing is undeniable:
It makes them more talented.
The Bulls already went all-in on offense ahead of 2021-22. Why not take it a step further? After all, a trio of LaVine, DeRozan and Irving would rank among the NBA’s very most talented. Suddenly, the Bulls would have a star-caliber player on the floor for 48 minutes every night.
Furthermore, Vucevic may not have been the right guy for this roster anyway. With so much offense on the roster, his lowblock game became minimized – and his defensive shortcomings became exposed.

The Bulls could chase a lower-usage, rim-protecting big man following this deal. With Irving, LaVine and DeRozan carrying the offense, that’s probably all they’d need.
