Third Team In Donovan Mitchell Blockbuster
One of the biggest headlines this offseason has been the Utah Jazz opening up trade discussions centered around Donovan Mitchell. The New York Knicks have been the team mentioned most often as a suitor, but other teams are involved.
Should a deal get finished with the Knicks, the Dallas Mavericks need to get involved in the deal. There are going to be a lot of moving parts in the deal as the Knicks will be moving some salary to get a deal done, which presents a golden opportunity for Dallas.
Should Derrick Rose be part of the package, the Mavericks can get involved as a third team that can take on his contract. A rebuilding Utah Jazz team has no real use for Rose, who will be 34 when the regular season kicks off.
Rose has some injury concerns but would be an ideal fit for the Mavericks’ second unit. He can still produce when healthy enough to be on the court and his improvements as a 3-point shooter means he can play off the ball when needed,

If Rose isn’t someone involved, the Mavericks can still try and get involved and take on one of the veterans that the Utah Jazz have.
Patrick Beverley and Mike Conley Jr. would both be great targets given their 3-point shooting, defense and playmaking. Beverley is on an expiring deal while Conley’s deal isn’t fully guaranteed for the 2023-24 season.
