Why The Indiana Pacers Do The Deal
If Myles Turner had more time left on his contract, he may command more than a first-round pick. Unfortunately for the Pacers, any team acquiring him knows they may be receiving a rental.
Letting him walk for nothing shouldn’t be an option for the Pacers, and make no mistake: if they don’t move him, he’ll probably walk. Turner has voiced discontent with the organization in the past, and their offering Deandre Ayton a max rookie extension this summer probably didn’t help matters.
With that context in mind, this is a good deal for the Pacers. As a rebuilding squad, they’ll be happy to land a first-round pick. Furthermore, with Jackson Jr. shelved, it may actually end up being a mid-first-round selection.
Furthermore, Adams’ expiring contract should appeal to them as well. The Pacers could probably flip him to a contender ahead of the 2022-23 trade deadline, but losing him in free agency wouldn’t be as devastating as losing Turner would be.
