As an NBA general manager, you basically only have two goals: sell high, and buy low.
If you can consistently accomplish those two goals, you should eventually build a contender. Realistically, that’s the long-term goal, but it’ll require smart asset management to achieve.
At this point, it’s going to be difficult for the Brooklyn Nets to sell high on Ben Simmons. Leaguewide perception of his game began to lower the last time he was active. His unwillingness to shoot threes has led to questions about whether he’s a viable lead ball-handler.

On the other hand, Simmons could represent an excellent buy-low opportunity for an opposing GM. For all of his flaws, Simmons remains one of the best defensive players in the NBA, and one of the best passers as well.
