How This Deal Impacts Los Angeles Lakers
The Los Angeles Lakers need to do everything they can to make the team competitive. They have LeBron James for at least two more seasons and that should be the focus of the franchise, figuring out how to turn things around.
While keeping an eye toward the future is necessary, as long as James is on the roster, focusing on championships is the main goal. He signed an extension that guarantees he will be on the roster through 2024 when he has an option for the 2024-25 season.
Trading away more draft picks could be seen as short-sighted, but there is no denying a Big 3 of James, Anthony Davis and Kyrie Irving is a lot more dangerous than one with Russell Westbrook. If there is a chance that this deal can happen, they shouldn’t let anything get in the way of completing it.
Not only do they get a sizable upgrade at the point guard spot with Irving, but they are also getting a perfect fit alongside their stars in Joe Harris. He is an elite 3-point shooter and serviceable defender capable of defending both wing positions.

3-point shooting and defense have been the recipe to success when building a roster around James and the Lakers have gotten away from that.
Irving and Harris would put them back on that track and when combined with the free agent signings they made, give the purple and gold a better fitting roster.
