Draft picks are a hot commodity in today’s NBA. Many would argue that they’re the league’s hottest form of currency. With that said, every first-round pick is not born equal.
Generally, the more likely a team is to land in the lottery, the more valuable their pick becomes. With that in mind, you’d rather receive a pick that conveys in the distant future from one of the league’s best teams.
On the other hand, there are exceptions to every rule. For example, if you can get your own pick back from a team you’d previously traded it to, that’s got unique value.
