How This Deal Impacts Golden State Warriors

The Golden State Warriors won the 2022 NBA Finals, giving them four championships in the last eight years. They are looking to compete for many more years to come even as their Big 3 of Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green will begin transitioning into the last acts of their careers.

A big part of that transition will be the development of the young players on the team. Andrew Wiggins, Jordan Poole, James Wiseman, Jonathan Kuminga and Moses Moody could make up the next championship core for Golden State.

Arguably the biggest question mark out of that bunch is Wiseman. He hasn’t played in an NBA game in over a calendar year as he tore his meniscus. Even when healthy, it is fair to question if he was helping the team win games as he is a raw prospect lacking reps.

If Wiseman does not show during the early part of the 2022-23 regular season that he can provide a positive impact with his minutes, the team could look to make a change. A team like the Oklahoma City Thunder would make for a good trade partner.

Kenrich Williams is the exact kind of versatile, multi-positional player that the Warriors love. He can defend numerous positions and on offense, he makes an impact without needing the ball in his hands with his 3-point shooting.

Veteran center Derrick Favors would slide right into Wiseman’s role in the rotation seamlessly. He provides a defensive presence in the middle with some rim protection and rebounding. While he isn’t asked to do it often, Favors can score in the low post offensive as well.

The 2024 first-round pick via the Houston Rockets could also have a lot of value. Golden State could use that selection to add another young, cost-controlled player to the mix or use it as a trade chip to sweeten a package to bring on an established player.
