Memphis Grizzles Receive: G Donovan Mitchell, F Rudy Gay
There were two directions we could have taken here. Some readers may have expected to see Jaren Jackson Jr.’s name in the Jazz’s return package. Unfortunately, he’s slated to miss the bulk of 2022-23 with an injury.
On the other hand, that wouldn’t deter a tanking Jazz team from acquiring him.
On the other hand, he’s surely worth at least a pair of first-round picks. Here, the Jazz favored the extra draft capital over Jackson Jr. The Memphis Grizzlies should prefer this package too. Acquiring Mitchell at the cost of Jackson Jr. could end up looking like a lateral move.
If the Grizzlies are pushing all of their chips in to build a contender, they should aim to keep their most productive players.
