Why The Charlotte Hornets Do The Deal
Myles Turner is probably the best center available on the trade market when factoring in both talent and potential cost. After a injury-riddled campaign last year in which he only played in 42 games, Turner’s value has tanked significantly despite him being a stretch five who can contend for Defensive Player of the Year whenever he’s healthy.
Not to mention the fact that the former Texas Longhorn is still only 26 years old. This deal gives the Hornets a legitimate two-way center who can singlehandedly transform their defense into a winning unit while spacing the floor for LaMelo Ball, Gordon Hayward, and Charlotte’s other attackers.
Turner could also have some untapped offensive potential that might be unleashed whenever he has the chance to play without a paint-tethered big man featuring alongside him like he did with Domantas Sabonis with the Indiana Pacers.
He certainly still has room to grow before he hits his ceiling, and the Hornets should bet that he can hit his fullest capabilities playing in Charlotte.

Terry Rozier has played well for them, so losing him will sting, but as a 28-year-old undersized two-guard, his trajectory doesn’t fit the rest of the team. He’s also owed around $78 million over the next three seasons so offloading his contract could be seen as a bonus in this deal.
