Toronto Raptors Receive: F Kevin Durant
For a while, the Raptors looked like potential frontrunners in the Durant sweepstakes. As time wore on, it became apparent that they wouldn’t part with the best player they could use to acquire him.
We don’t blame them, either. Trading Scottie Barnes on the heels of his Rookie of the Year campaign for a player who’ll be 34 before the season ends would be too difficult a pill to swallow. As it came to look like the Raptors knew this, they stopped being linked to KD.
After all, other packages they could offer might not make sense either. For example, trading Pascal Siakam and draft capital for Durant would leave the Raptors without an acceptable co-star for Durant.
All told, it looked like negotiations between these two sides were dead in their tracks. Of course, a lot can change over a month or so.
