The San Antonio Spurs aren’t exactly trading for Westbrook here. The sad reality is, that no team is likely to target the former MVP this summer.
As Westbrook ages, his flaws become more pronounced. He’s still capable of tremendous statistical output, but it doesn’t seem to lend itself to winning NBA games. His inefficiency, turnover habits, and defensive unawareness make him an undesirable player for any contending team.
Instead, the Spurs are trading for his expiring contract and draft capital. Who knows what they might do with Westbrook: they could buy him out or sit him altogether. Alternatively, they could let him rack up triple-doubles until his heart is content:
