Why The Miami Heat Do The Deal
We shouldn’t write Kyle Lowry off. Yes, he’s 36, but his style of play has never leaned into elite athleticism. It’s possible that he had some nagging ailments that kept him from delivering a strong performance in last year’s playoffs.
Let’s assume that he’s due for a decline, but not a dramatic one. Would the Heat not benefit from having two aging, quality point guards in Conley and Lowry?
After all, having one will increase their odds of preserving the other for a playoff run. The two could form one of the best positional platoons in the NBA. On the other hand, if Lowry is in significant decline, adding Conley takes on an added importance.
Luckily, he’s got one of the more portable games in the NBA. Conley’s elite floor-spacing and high-level decision-making will complement the Heat’s trio of Jimmy Butler, Bam Adebayo, and Tyler Herro. In fact, it will complement anybody, period.
