How This Trade Impacts Toronto Raptors
The Toronto Raptors are involved in numerous trade rumors for superstars, so what is one more? If they strike out on the other trade talks and the Boston Celtics aren’t the landing spot for Kevin Durant, they should focus their efforts on Jaylen Brown.
Brown is one of the most valuable players in the NBA when it comes to trade value. Only 25 years old, he has already reached All-Star level and could get even better. If the Raptors are looking to take a swing on a wing player elevating them, he is worth the risk as he is closer to that level than anyone on the roster currently.
Coming along with Brown is Derrick White, who possesses the combo skill set the Raptors like in the backcourt. He has the length to defend multiple positions, a necessity for the game plan Nick Nurse deploys.
The price to acquire them is not cheap. OG Anunoby has a very high ceiling and Toronto likely hopes he reaches a level that Brown has. A debate could be had about who has the higher ceiling, as both are 25, but Toronto is betting on the player who has achieved more.

Gary Trent Jr. has a higher ceiling than White, but again, White has accomplished more in bigger spots. While the long-term outlook may be dampened slightly, the Raptors are getting players better equipped to help them right now.
To offset that, they include two first-round picks in this deal. That could be a point to haggle over, as the Raptors could look to add protections to the selections. Ultimately, however, two picks will be heading to Boston.
