How This Trade Impacts Toronto Raptors
There have been several rumors floating around OG Anunoby this offseason. He reportedly wasn’t happy with his role on the team and his name came up as a potential trade candidate. While nothing has occurred yet, if that doesn’t change, it is something that Toronto could look into making a reality.
Anunoby’s ceiling is very high, but there are some concerns. The injury history is concerning, as he has played in only 91 games the last two regular seasons. His overall efficiency has gone down in consecutive seasons as well, but his scoring average has gone up as his 3-point volume has increased.
Toronto would certainly be taking a risk by trading Anunoby, but they have replacements on the roster ready to go. Scotte Barnes Jr. can slide right into the starting small forward spot, with Richaun Holmes fulfilling the need for size in the lineup.
While not on the same tier as Anunoby, having Holmes could actually improve the team as they won’t be as easily dominated on the interior.

Harrison Barnes is also a solid addition. Toronto deployed lineups with long, athletic two-way players and Barnes fits that mold. He brings more championship experience to the team along with free agent signing Otto Porter Jr.
The draft capital is what could really make this deal worthwhile. Seeing how unsuccessful the Sacramento Kings have been in their pursuit of a playoff spot the last 16 seasons, the Toronto Raptors could very well have two lottery picks coming their way in 2023 and 2025. An unprotected pick in 2026 gives them a little more ammunition if they choose to continue pursuing Kevin Durant as well.

The Indiana Pacers 2023 second-round pick could hold a lot of value as well. They are rebuilding and that selection very well could be near the top of the second round. The only real difference between picking 30th and possibly 32nd is the contract structure; the level of player should be essentially the same.
