Sacramento Kings Receive: F Kevin Durant
In all likelihood, you were expecting to see a bigger name landing in Brooklyn here. Think again.
It may seem intuitive that the Sacramento Kings would include De’Aaron Fox in a trade that lands them Durant. The Kings would do themselves no favors in doing so. Landing Durant at the expense of Fox defeats the purpose of landing Durant.
After all, a core of Durant, Domantas Sabonis, and Harrison Barnes will be competitive. On the other hand, they’re highly unlikely to compete for the 2022-23 championship. In all likelihood, Kevin Durant would be well aware of that fact.
In case you haven’t heard, Durant would prefer to join a contender. It’s hard to say with any confidence that he’d even be willing to play on a Kings team without Fox.
