Why The Brooklyn Nets Do The Deal
If you haven’t heard, the Brooklyn Nets are the subject of many trade rumors this summer. Ben Simmons is likely the least of their concerns at the moment.
Kevin Durant has demanded a trade. Meanwhile, there seems to be a mutual interest in parting ways between Kyrie Irving and the organization. With that said, they seem to be having trouble moving either.
In Durant’s case, their asking price may be so high that any team willing to meet it would be gutting their roster. In Irving’s case, they probably just don’t like the offers they’re getting. His off-court antics have made him, like Simmons, less valuable than his talent merits.
Some are expecting the Nets to move forward with their star duo in 2022-23. If that’s the plan, this deal works: Rozier and Oubre Jr. are both more complementary players than Simmons.

On the other hand, if they’re moving them and starting over, this deal could still work. Simmons’ status as a foundational piece is too questionable, and they’re getting a much-needed first-round pick for him.
