Why The Golden State Warriors Do The Deal

The Golden State Warriors may have won the 2021-22 NBA title, but their odds of repeating that feat could stand to improve.

This core is aging, and teams around the league are improving at the same time. The Warriors will be competitive next season, but they could use a talent injection.

Adding an offensive player as dynamic as Donovan Mitchell would give them one. Meanwhile, Klay Thompson should be able to slide over to Wiggins’ small forward position and replicate much of his 3-and-D skillset.

All told, it’s hard to imagine this trade wouldn’t improve the Warriors in 2022-23. Jonathan Kuminga has tremendous upside, but he won’t be ready to make significant contributors to a contender next season.
