How This Deal Impacts Miami Heat
This hypothetical trade may take a while to develop. The Miami Heat aren’t going to surrender anything in a trade until they know for sure whether they are out of the running for one of the superstars that are rumored to be available this offseason. If they ultimately miss out on those level of players, they will search out other avenues to upgrade the team.
This trade with the Houston Rockets would certainly achieve that. Eric Gordon provides the Heat with someone that can space the floor to open things up for Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo on the interior. His relentless downhill attacking of the rim would help as well when things get stagnant.
Kenyon Martin Jr. has never played a high-volume role, but the Heat would be taking a worthwhile risk seeing if he is capable of it. He has shown flashes when given extended playing time with the Rockets, but playing for a rebuilding team with no expectations is a lot different than with a team looking to win a championship.
Martin does have the skill set that can at least help offset the loss of Tucker. While he is nowhere near as seasoned, Martin is a 36 percent shooter in his career from the 3-point line and has position versatility on the defensive end.
