Why The Brooklyn Nets Do The Deal
Firstly, we already established that this deal can’t transpire until midseason. If Kevin Durant is still on the Brooklyn Nets by January 15th, we don’t know what that might look like.
It’s entirely possible that it’s working. There’s a real case to be made that Durant’s best move is to stand pat. If the Nets are looking like title favorites, all of the problems that currently exist between Durant and the organization could be water on the bridge by then.
Let’s say it isn’t. For argument’s sake, let’s imagine the situation has only gotten uglier. In that event, the Nets will be desperate to trade Durant by then.
They’re unlikely to get a better offer than this. Garland, in all likelihood, is going to be an All-Star level contributor in this league for a decade or more. Okoro isn’t the same level of player, but he is a solid defensive wing who’ll be a key rotation player if his three ever starts falling consistently.
