Every team in the NBA won’t be willing to part with a 2023 first-round pick in order to land Mike Conley. The New Orleans Pelicans may be an exception.

After all, they own the Los Angeles Lakers’ 2023 selection already. Some would suggest that selection projects as more valuable than the Pelicans’ own. Just don’t tell a Lakers fan.

Either way, the Pelicans can spare the draft capital. Meanwhile, they could use a floor general. Conley would make for a tremendous positional upgrade.

Granted, his fit alongside C.J. McCollum is a questionable fit from a defensive standpoint. In fact, the New Orleans Pelicans as a whole may profile as a weak defensive team in 2022-23. Nonetheless, a starting group of Conley, McCollum, Brandon Ingram, Zion Williamson, and Jonas Valanciunas should make for one of the best offenses in the entire NBA.
