Why The Dallas Mavericks Do The Deal
In the NBA, opportunity counts for as much as anything. One could argue that Coby White hasn’t gotten a fair one with the Chicago Bulls.
During his 2019-20 rookie campaign, he struggled with shooting efficiency. It’s hard to hold that against him: after all, he was a rookie.
In 2020-21, he appeared to be taking a step forward. Unfortunately, injuries cut his progress short. By the time he returned to action, the Bulls were a vastly different team. Having added DeMar DeRozan in that time, they suddenly had less use for White.
Here, the Mavericks are gambling on a player who has always had tremendous upside. White still has the same tools that made him the 7th overall pick in the 2019 draft. Alongside Doncic, he may be afforded the leeway to put them together.
