Why The Dallas Mavericks Do The Deal
For Dallas, the question here isn’t “why”. More accurately, it’s “why not?”.
Westbrook may not be the obvious solution for this roster. At the same time, he could be an interesting one.
In all likelihood, Head Coach Jason Kidd would look to stagger Doncic and Westbrook to the fullest possible extent. That’s going to mean reduced minutes for Westbrook. Realistically, none of this works if he’s unwilling to make compromises.
If he is, it could. Westbrook could relieve Doncic of ball-handling duties when needed. In the minutes that they do co-exist, Doncic could finally show off some off-ball chops. If he has them, they could be a viable pairing in bursts.
