Why The Indiana Pacers Do The Deal
Patrick Williams and Coby White could both be trade candidates this summer for vastly different reasons.
When Williams has been on the floor, he’s looked like exactly the player the Chicago Bulls were hoping to land with the fourth overall pick. He has the potential to be one of the league’s premier 3-and-D players. Unfortunately, his health has kept him off the floor far too often.
On the other hand, White’s health has been fine. It’s been his play that’s underwhelmed. He’s a solid scoring guard with good positional size, but he’s given few indications that he’ll be taking a star leap.
This trade is still worth the gamble for Indiana. If Williams’ health turns around, he’s a perfect fit for this group. He’ll especially complement the team’s only cornerstone in Haliburton as a strong target for his passing.

Meanwhile, White is still young enough to have star potential, but even if he doesn’t fulfill it, he should enjoy a lengthy career as a sixth man.
Is that too much combined potential for the Bulls to give up on?
