1. Los Angeles Lakers
It’s no secret that the recipe to building a successful LeBron James team is to try to surround him with as many 3-and-D players as possible.
Last year, the Los Angeles Lakers tried to do so by signing a bunch of past-their-prime veterans to try to defend and knock down open triples that LeBron, Russell Westbrook, and Anthony Davis created for them.
Alas, the Lakers’ rag-tag group of senior citizens failed to aptly guard or provide floor spacing, and Los Angeles stumbled through the 2021-22 regular season to the tune of a 33-49 record, an 11th-seed finish, and a missed postseason to show for it.
While the imperfect fit between James, Davis, and Westbrook certainly played a big part in Los Angeles’s struggles, the ineffectiveness of their supporting cast made it quite difficult for their trio of stars to succeed.

Luckily, the Lakers have seemed to learn from their mistake from last summer. This free agency, they clearly targeted youth and athleticism, having signed Lonnie Walker IV, Troy Daniels, and Thomas Bryant among others.
While the Lakers got significantly younger and sprier, they do still need to identify some shooters to space the floor for their newly acquired stable of slashers.

His salary fits in nicely with Talen Horton-Tucker and Wenyen Gabriel’s. the Lakers might have to attach some draft capital along with those two contracts to get the deal done but bringing McDermott’s perimeter prowess to La La Land would certainly be worth it.
