Kelly Oubre Jr.
If the Dallas Mavericks do pass on Doug McDermott, it’ll likely be due to his limited athleticism, defense, and playmaking. If those qualities are important to them, they’ll consider Oubre Jr.
No, he’s not an elite defender or playmaker. He still surpasses McDermott in both categories. Furthermore, Oubre Jr.’s athleticism would be a tremendous boost to this Mavericks squad.
Realistically, they don’t have a wing that could match it outside of Josh Green. At 21, Green has potential, but he’s a remarkably inconsistent three-point threat for the time being.
Of course, so is Oubre. On the other hand, he’s got a much more sophisticated game. If Oubre’s shot isn’t falling, he can put the ball on the floor and create opportunities for himself. He’s also a terror in transition. Realistically, he’d be the beneficiary of a lot of Doncic dimes in 2022-23.
