Why The Los Angeles Lakers Do The Deal
Frankly, it’s pretty obvious why the Los Angeles Lakers do this deal.
Irving may be unreliable, but when he’s on the floor, he’s someone you can count on. In fact, he’s one of the most talented guards of his generation.
On the other hand, the Lakers know they can’t make it work with Westbrook. It doesn’t work on paper, and in 2021-22, it didn’t work in practice. A ball-dominant guard who can’t shoot isn’t a good compliment to LeBron James, and nobody should be surprised by that.
The Lakers will be hoping that James will lean into his prior experience with Irving to keep the temperamental point guard in check. By which, of course, we mean on the floor.
