Kevin Durant is the hottest name on the trade rumor market, but Donovan Mitchell is distinctly second.
The 25-year-old scoring guard is a prodigious talent. He also may be available. As mentioned, the Jazz sent Rudy Gobert to the Wolves this summer. The return they received, while substantial, did little to assure Jazz fans that the team is focused on winning games in 2022-23.
Some have suggested their intention is to retool on the fly. That’s possible. Given Mitchell’s youth, the Jazz may feel that with some time, they can flip the assets they received for Gobert to land Mitchell a new co-star.
Alternatively, they could just blow it up. If they decided to, this would be a solid return for Mitchell. In the aggregate, General Manager Danny Ainge will have turned Mitchell and Gobert into Jaren Jackson Jr., Ziare Williams, Malik Beasley, Jarred Vanderbilt, Patrick Beverley, and six unprotected first-round picks and a protected one this summer.

Jackson Jr. is slated to miss a sizeable portion of the season with an injury. That ought to suit the Jazz. They can bottom out, land a premium draft pick in a strong draft, and rebuild around whoever they select and Jackson Jr.
