Why The Los Angeles Lakers Do The Deal
The Lakers can’t afford to think about the future. If they do, they run the risk of messing up their present even worse than they already have.
This team needs to improve ahead of 2022-23. In all likelihood, they’re already working overtime to try to trade Russell Westbrook in a bid to do so.
If they’re unable to do so, Gordon is at least a perfect fit for the former MVP. He’s an elite floor-spacer who can also capably attack closeouts to get to the basket. In fact, Gordon’s low-maintenance brand of basketball makes him a perfect fit alongside anyone.
In other words, he’s a worthy acquisition whether the team finds a taker for Westbrook or not. Gordon has ample experience as a complementary offensive player on a contending team. Generally speaking, he’s done well in that role.

For that reason, the Lakers should take this deal if offered. After all, if they’re not contending next season, they’ve got bigger problems than a 2027 first-round pick.
