Why The Cleveland Cavaliers Do The Deal
Unlike the Dallas Mavericks, the Cleveland Cavaliers may not be as desperate for a plus secondary ball-handler in 2022-23.
In all likelihood, this team will look to cede a bigger chunk of offensive responsibility to soon-to-be sophomore Evan Mobley. He’s a potentially generational defensive player, but on offense, he had the training wheels on in his rookie campaign.
He also flashed potential for brilliance. Mobley is an exceptionally mobile 6’11 with solid ball-handling skills. He’s also got outstanding floor vision. Sets that primarily feature him will probably be the Cavs’ second choice after those that favor Garland in 2022-23.
That leaves little room for Sexton. In all likelihood, the Cavs will try to build on the momentum they generated without him in 2021-22 next season. With that logic in mind, Spencer Dinwiddie may suffice for their ball-handling needs next year.

If that’s true, picking up an unprotected 2025 first-round pick makes this deal a no-brainer for them.
