Zion Williamson

Since Zion Williamson was selected No. 1 overall by the New Orleans Pelicans in the 2019 NBA Draft, there have seemingly been rumors about him leaving New Orleans. His family has not helped that cause, as they are the root of some of those rumors.

Williamson and the Pelicans are working toward a five-year max deal that could be worth up to $231 million. It is a bit surprising that Williamson was offered that contract, as he has missed significant time throughout his career. He missed the entire 2021-22 season with a foot injury, which followed up a rookie season in which he appeared in only 24 games a sophomore season he played in 61.

Injuries are a major concern, but when he is on the court, Zion Williamson is dominant. He has averaged 25.7 points per game, making 60.4 percent of his shots in his career. He has pulled down seven rebounds to go with 3.2 assists as well.

Skill-wise, there is no doubt that Williamson is worth a max contract, but he has to prove he can stay healthy. He is also someone to keep an eye on as the next superstar to request a trade to a new team.

We have seen numerous players ask for a trade in the early stages after signing massive extensions and Zion Williamson could be the next one.

Unfortunately, this is something that the Pelicans have gotten used to. They went through this with Chris Paul in 2011 to the Los Angeles Clippers and Anthony Davis in 2019 to the Los Angeles Lakers.
