Why The Brooklyn Nets Do The Deal
As we already said: no, the Brooklyn Nets are probably not getting enough back here.
Unfortunately, it’s unlikely that any team in the league will surrender pure, equal on-court value for Irving. His off-court antics have depreciated his value to the point that this might be the best they can do.
Whether it’s a good deal also depends on what the Nets’ intentions are in 2022-23. In all likelihood, they’ll be hoping to stay as competitive as possible. After all, they won’t own their own first-round pick outright again until the year 2028.
This deal covers a lot of bases in that regard. They reunite with a productive player in Spencer Dinwiddie. He’ll make up a portion of Irving’s production. They also get an intriguing young 3-and-D wing in Green, and a first-round pick as well.
