Talen Horton-Tucker’s fit with the Timberwolves starts with Karl Anthony-Towns. After making this trade, the Wolves would hope that the two hyphenated-named stars found some symmetry.
It’s entirely possible that they would. If Horton-Tucker is best deployed as a ball-handler, pairing him with the league’s best three-point shooter feels like a smart bet. If this goes well, we could see the best version of him that we’ve seen in the NBA so far next year following this trade.
Furthermore, this trade could portend more movement for the Wolves. Rumors suggest that they’re likely to move on from D’Angelo Russell this summer. Nunn could serve as a replacement. If they could flip Russell for a stretch four to put alongside Towns, they could really make use of THT next season.
Of course, it’s unlikely they’ll base their roster decisions around Horton-Tucker. With that said, acquiring a stretch four would be a good idea for this team anyway. This trade, coupled with another, could make them more well-rounded. If it leads to a Horton-Tucker breakout, it could make them dangerous.
